About the artist

"Art is a language that transcends time. Paintings that were created centuries ago still speak to us today. The act of turning raw art materials into representational images is a fascinating and meditative process for me. I love the magic of it. It feeds my soul." -Arlene Kelley

Central Maine native Arlene Kelley has been drawing and painting since childhood. After high school she studied fine art at the Portland School of Art. She went into commercial art in 1983, and worked as a graphic designer for 23 years, in printing, newspapers, and public relations. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration in Laguna Beach, California in 1992. She paints at her home studio in Pittston, where she lives with her husband, Daniel Baird.
